As a part of the leadup to the 2010 Winter Olympics held in Vancouver, host broadcasting company CTVglobemedia announced that they would allow users to vote on the ten best Canadian Olympic Winter moments. The results were presented on a one-hour television special later in 2009 hosted by Brian Williams and Claude Mailhot, and broadcast by CTV, TSN and its french counterpart RDS.[1] The top 3 were also be added to the Royal Canadian Mint's special series of commemorative 25-cent coins for the Olympics.[2]

The initiative was promoted across many of CTVglobemedia's properties, including its Olympic websites, on-air advertisements, print advertisements, and billboard signs. A contest was also be held alongside the voting that would award two people with a trip to the games.[2]

Users were able to vote until March 25.[1]

  • Jamie Salé and David Pelletier, gold medal in Figure skating at the 2002 Winter Olympics
  • Beckie Scott, gold medal in Cross-country skiing at the 2002 Winter Olympics
  • Cindy Klassen, one gold medal, two silver, and two bronze medals in Speed skating at the 2006 Winter Olympics
