The continued list of Sureño cliques are groups of loosely affiliated gangs that pay tribute to the Mexican Mafia. While outside on the streets, fighting is common among many different Sureño cliques especially in Los Angeles, the city holds one of the biggest dealiest Sureño on Sureño violence. Rivalries between Sureño cliques has also been spotted in Oregon, Atlanta, Texas, Washington State and Florida, the only time this rivalry is set aside is when they enter the prison system and joins the Mexican Mafia.

The Sureños were established in 1968 as a result of the continued conflict between 2 Hispanic prison gangs the Mexican Mafia and Nuestra Familia. as a result of these prison wars, Hispanic street gangs started aligning themselves with either the Sureños or the Norteños. Most Hispanic gangs in Southern California and some Hispanic gangs in Northern California aligned with the Sureños, The Sureños in Northern California are referred to as "Upstate Sureños".

The Sureños represents with the color blue and use the number 13, XIII, X3 which represents the thirteenth letter of the alphabet M, to show allegiance to the Mexican Mafia, Sureños groups are referred to as "cliques" or "clickas". Although most Sureño gangs have the number 13 in their names, some Sureño gangs never included the number 13 in their name or graffiti such as the White Fence, most Compton Varrios, the 18th Street gang, Choppers 12, and Clanton 14; instead they will write Sur or Surenos in their graffiti to show their affiliation to the Sureños.

Although most Sureños gangs represent with the color blue, some Sureño gangs sport the color red, such as the Culver City Boys 13, East Side Wilmas, and the Red Steps Clique of the Logan Heights 13; these are known as the "Red Rag Sureños".
